Everybody is invited to join staff from the hospital and YMCA for a game of bowls, to share a barbecue and to learn more about men’s health issues.
The Far West Local Health District Cancer Services is hosting a ‘bare foot’ bowls evening at the Zinc Bowling Club (Wentworth Rd) on Thursday 15th November from 6pm to 9pm.
“November is Men’s Health Month and getting the health message to men can be notoriously difficult,” said Garry Halliday, FWLHD Psycho Oncology Counsellor.
“This evening event is designed as a fun and non-threatening way of providing information. Around the bowls and the barbecue a number of health professionals will be on hand to provide information and answer questions,” he said.
The health professionals in attendance will be from:
- The NSW Cancer Council;
- The FWLHD Cancer Service;
- Hospital Dieticians;
- The Diabetic Educator;
- Public Dental Services;
- Bowel Cancer Coordination; and
- YMCA about fitness classes.
You can also get your blood pressure, blood sugar and depression and anxiety levels checked.
“The event is not limited to men – ladies bring your male family and friends. Their bodies may love you for it,” said Mr Halliday.
The cost is $5 for bowls and $2 for barbecue – information and fun absolutely free.
If possible RSVP to Garry Halliday on 8080 1577 for catering purposes (leave a message).
