Anyone interested in volunteering at their local health service are invited to come to the Volunteer Expo on Saturday and meet staff and volunteers from the Broken Hill Health Service.
Far West Local Health District will be hosting a stall at the Broken Hill City Council Volunteer Expo.
“There are many opportunities to volunteer at our local health service including at the Hospital Kiosk or as an Artist in Residence to supporting patients with delirium and in palliative care and family support during an emergency,” said Mrs Darriea Turley AM, Manager Community Engagement.
“We want to inform residents of the services we provide, and welcome any new volunteers who would like to give something back to their community,” said Mrs Turley.
She said one very popular program is the Tai Chi. “The Far West LHD is always looking for new instructors for our Tai Chi program and if you are interested in Tai Chi as potentially becoming an instructor, we provide training and support.”
Mrs Turley said volunteers have a profound effect on our community and their contribution to the health service cannot be overstated.
“The act of volunteering also brings positives affects to a person and can change a person’s day or even their life,” she said.
People often don’t know how to take that first step to get involved in a volunteering activity.
“Visit our stall at the Expo to see what is available and find the right fit for you,” said Mrs Turley.
The Volunteer Expo will be held from 9am to midday on Saturday, September 22 at the Civic Centre.
