Broken Hill Maternity Unit celebrates with a ‘Walk with Midwives’

The Broken Hill Hospital Maternity Unit is celebrating International Day of the Midwife on Thursday, 5 May with a “Walk with Midwives” followed by a barbecue lunch and Midwife of the Year presentation.

The theme of this year’s event, led by the International Confederation of Midwives is ‘Women and Newborns: The Heart of Midwifery’.

“Midwives are uniquely positioned to provide respectful, high quality care that places women and newborns in the centre. This professional care is a significant contribution to healthy families and thriving communities,” said Mrs Liz Bennett, Midwifery Unit Manager.

This year will mark the first International Day of the Midwife since the launch of the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) in July 2015.

“This has been an exciting year for us and we are looking forward to celebrating our day with women and babies we have cared for since we began offering a continuity of midwifery care program” said Mrs Bennett.

Mums, mums-to-be, bubs and families are invited to attend the event on Thursday 5 May in the Hospitalfoyer. The midwives will be gathering in the hospital foyer at 11am for the walk, followed by lunch at 12noon. The presentation of Midwife of the Year award will be made then.
