Community Palliative Care Service seeks volunteers in Broken Hill

Are you interested in being part of a new community palliative care volunteer initiative?

Far West LHD are seeking applications for volunteers to become involved in the Community Palliative Care Volunteer Service based in Broken Hill. Community Palliative Care Volunteers complement other services by having the luxury of time to be with a person who has a life limiting illness.

Janet Pearce, Community Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator, is keen to hear from people interested in volunteering and who would like to provide companionship and support to palliative care patients and their carers.

There is an application and recruitment process because it is important to have the most suitable people volunteering in the community palliative care setting. This means that not everyone who applies will be selected to progress to the next stage.

Potential volunteers are invited to contact Janet for an application package. If selected the next stage involves an interview, and those people selected after interview will attend an Induction Training Program prior to placement with a patient.

Volunteers need to be available for 2-4 hours per week, at a nominated time during the day between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Thursday to visit patients in their home.

If you believe you have good communication skills (specifically excellent listening skills), are warm, empathetic and compassionate, and have a desire to volunteer with palliative care services, please contact Janet Pearce, Community Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator on Phone (08) 8080 1733 or 0428 913 303 or by email at janet.pearce@health.gov.nsw.au
