Consumer Representatives wanted for the Staying Healthy Program

Can you help the health service plan and deliver services to support Broken Hill to stay healthy?

The Far West Local Health District Integrated Care Program is seeking people living in Broken Hill who are interested in helping us to better understand the community health needs.

The Integrated Care Program assists people who are at risk of developing long-term health problems from lifestyle choices to make changes to stay healthy now and in the future.

Some of the lifestyles that can put people at risk of a developing a long-term disease include:

  • Smoking
  • Not being active
  • Poor diet choices
  • Being overweight
  • Drinking too much alcohol

Ten new positions called “Community Engagement Consumer Representatives” have been created to help the Integrated Care Program better reach the broader community.

“We would like people from Broken Hill including Aboriginal people to help us to capture a wide range of opinions and experiences,” said Ms Denise McCallum, Project Manager Integrated Care Far West LHD.

“The information the Consumer Representatives gather will assist to plan, develop, and deliver services and resources to help our community to make changes to their lifestyle to stay healthy,” she said.

The Consumer Representative positions are casual positions and they will be paid to attend meetings, assist to gather information, and to connect the program with other people in our community. This group of people will meet and gather information as needed with training and support provided. These positions will help to influence health decisions for our community.
