International Nurses Day – 12 May 2016
Far West LHD to present Nurse of the Year Awards
“Nurses: A Force for Change: Improving health systems’ resilience”
The Far West Local Health District will be recognising and acknowledging all its nurses for their commitment to caring for others as it celebrates International Nurses Day on Thursday, 12 May, 2016.
“This time of year we take the opportunity to celebrate the anniversary of Florence Nightingales’ birthday (12 May) and express our thanks and gratitude to our nursing workforce for the care they deliver to our patients across the District,” said Far West LHD Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Ms Dale Sutton.
The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day is ‘Nurses: A Force for Change: Improving health systems’ resilience’.
“The theme reflects the commitment from nurses for action to change health systems to achieve better health outcomes for patients, carers and their community,” said Ms Sutton.
“Nurses make decisions multiple times a day in everyday practice that can make a vital difference in the efficiency and effectiveness of our healthcare system. It is essential that nurses focus on the nursing role for effective care as a key priority for achieving better health outcome for all,” she said.
The celebration will feature the Far West LHD Nursing and Midwifery Directorate’s announcement of Far West LHD Nurse of the Year, Assistant in Nursing of the Year, Enrolled Nurse of the Year, Nursing Team of the Year and New Graduate of the Year for 2016.
“Once more I am pleased to say we are very proud of our strong and dedicated nursing workforce and the award recipients are well deserving of that recognition being highlighted today,” said Ms Sutton.
“Our celebration of the outstanding contribution made by the nurses in our District and those who receive awards acknowledge that we as fellow colleagues and as an organisation appreciate and recognise our nurses for the hard work they do every day.”
International Nurses Day celebration activities including staff barbecues and dinners, will also be held for nurses in all the Far West LHD’s other facilities.
