Local woman Melissa Welsh, has been appointed to the position of General Manager of the Broken Hill Health Service.
After leaving the town at 18 to study at Adelaide University, Ms Welsh began her health career in Adelaide in 1997, working in the public health system as an Occupational Therapist.
She worked interstate in clinical and management roles before returning to Broken Hill in 2007 to manage the Occupational Therapy Department.
Her passion for service improvement led to her taking on the role of Clinical Redesign and Innovation Manager for the Far West LHD in 2014. She has completed post graduate studies in health management and leadership, and her experience within the Far West LHD Clinical Governance Unit means she has a strong focus on safety, quality and service improvement.

She said she wanted the Broken Hill Health Service to be a service that embodies the NSW Health CORE values of collaboration, openness, respect and empowerment with a strong and overt corporate and clinical governance structure.”
