Pathology staff become superheroes to help sick children

Staff from Pathology West – Broken Hill will sell cupcakes and raffle tickets whilst sporting an array of superhero outfits to help raise funds for Bear Cottage’s Superhero Week.

Bear Cottage provides support, respite and end-of-life care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families, in a warm homelike environment. It is dedicated to providing families with a place where they can spend quality time with their child and help create some life-long memories, whilst providing support to families through difficult times.

At Bear Cottage you see superheroes everyday including the nurses, volunteers, families and brave patients.

This is why on Thursday 14 August from 10am to 12pm, pathology staff will help lighten the load by becoming superheroes too. A cake stall will be set up in the main foyer of Broken Hill Hospital and cupcakes will be sold for a gold coin donation.

Pathology staff will also raffle locally donated prizes for $1 per ticket.

Pathology West – Broken Hill’s Technical Assistant Brodee-Leigh Borchard said, “As a mum, this cause really hit home for me. We see children in the laboratory for only a glimpsing moment and we wanted to see if there is something a bit extra we can do for these brave children.”

Brodee said Bear Cottage relies on donated funds to continue providing the facility free of charge each year. “This is why we have laboratory staff and even some of our regular patients baking cupcakes because every bit of fund raising helps.”
